We used this machine at work for a year, then it was recalled by the factory — DANGER OF EXPLOSION. That was Feb. 2009. It’s now October 2009, and there’s been no replacement. When I called to inquire about the lengthy delay, the man on the phone said — “no idea when yours might be shipped, we have 1000s of backorders.” Very unprofessional.

  • Please for those who don’t have this machine sold in your country please dont purchase it. The below was what answer philip senseo had given me. For my first senseo coffee to break down and the second which is replace by amazon which almost exploded. Please for the safety of your family please read.

*******The Senseo coffemakers cannot be used in Singapore. They only work on 120V. We do not recommend to use it with any adapter or converter. Usage of this machine in the worldwide outlet may void the warranty.

I like good coffee and read a lot of reviews, most of them glowing, before buying Senseo. I am not at all satisfied with what I got. I tried a variety of flavors, and none of them gave me the full-bodied coffee taste I savor. In fact, I taste little difference between the various choices. I would not buy this product again.

I’m basing my review on the product, and not the value for the current list price, which is [...].

I’ve used a Senseo for about 4 years and have owned this product for about 1 month. The advantages of this coffee maker is the convenience of having a hot cup of coffee in about 30 seconds with little preparation. You just pop a coffee pod in, press a button and viola! Toss the used pod away, and your machine is ready for the next cup. Simple.

I do, however, have some reservations with this machine.

Noise: It’s too loud for my liking, but only for the few seconds of brewing. It’s pretty quiet, otherwise.

Clean up: This particular model seems to leak often but not in a huge quantity. I’m comparing this to the older model I had several years ago, which never leaked at all. Having a cream colored counter, it goes without saying that cleaning coffee stains off of it nearly every day negates the convenience of a throw-away, single serve coffee pod.

Coffee pods: Senseo coffee is sub par, compared to the coffee offered from their competitors. This company made a big mistake in not partnering with name brand coffee makers. To me, availability of pods is also an issue. In my area, I cannot find any varieties other than medium and dark roast. To boot, their coffee pods are pricey. Right now I’m paying 6 bucks for a pack of 18 pods. This certainly beats the price of ready brewed coffee, but is more expensive than buying your own beans and grinding them yourself. That being said, I bought a set of Ecopads and would definitely recommend them as a cheaper alternative to pods. I used to have a Presto Mypod refillable coffee filter which also worked well in these types of machines.

Water well: The reservoir that comes with this machine is too small, and has to be refilled too often. I would recommend the extra large water tank available through Amazon.

All in all, this product is sufficient and I will continue to use it as it was free, and serves my purposes just fine. I wouldn’t, however, recommend paying 50 dollars for this particular machine.

I purchased this Senseo maker about five months ago. I have moved four times since, as I am a college student, and here are my observations:

    1) Use vinegar and water to flush out the plastic taste and smell. I did not use my Senseo for the first two months because when I did, the coffee tasted like plastic. But when I visited home, my mom washed it out with vinegar twice (once with each pod holder), and then twice with water (again once with each pod holder). The taste disappeared, and there began my love with Senseo.

    2) Well, the relationship is a love-hate affair. A few weeks ago, I had to hold the cord into the machine to brew because of loose wiring. I speculate cord may have been loosened during the moves, but since I boxed it in its original container and was really careful with it every move, I thought it might just be poor wiring. So, I called up Senseo. It was under warranty and a very, very nice Senseo employee sent me a new Senseo. The box had a pre-paid shipping tag so I could send the old (five months old?) machine back. The new Senseo arrived in four days. Very nice customer service.

    3) I am an engineering student. That being said, the water reservoir does not tightly fit into the machine. The both of the water reservoir will leak often. If that happens, you need to push in the water output in the bottom. Sounds crazy, but it is a simple fix to poor engineering. The coffee is never hot, just warm. If you make cup after cup consectively, the water heater does heat the water more the next time. But I rarely brew more than one or two cups. Also, only mugs can fit, as the brewing nozzle is short. To be honest, the machine is flimsy and poorly made. It shakes and makes the most horrible sounds when it is brewing. But brewing takes less than thirty seconds.

Overall, the pods do only make four ounces of coffee. That is true. The coffee is really good and foamy. That is true. The machine is sort of expensive. That is true. And it seems to me, the life of the machine is limited. But, it brews quickly, makes insanely good coffee after you get rid of the plastic favor, and the service was amazing. Should you buy this? Depends on your personalty. I am not going to buy another because of the short life span and corner-cutting design, but if you do not care about its imperfections, it might be your soul-mate. After this one wears out (I expect our relationship to last twelve months if I am lucky), I am going to a cheap coffee press. That is what I used to use, and it was more affordable. Meanwhile, I am enjoying the delicious Senseo coffee.
